Overview

Please book by using e-mail contact link - PRE-BOOKING WITH WALK LEADER IS ESSENTIAL

A pleasant walk even if a little gooey in a few places at this time of year, but mostly on solid trails, with pleasing views from higher ground. Navigation on the recce was much more challenging than even in the Lake District, so care will be taken on the day with way finding.

Heading east from the car park the woodland trail runs parallel to the dismantled railway beneath Ardsley Tunnel, alongside the River Dearne, and below the heights of Horse Carr Woods. One stile involves stepping onto a concrete block to scale a few bars of a metal gate, but shouldn't be a problem to intrepid DVR.  A diverted trail after Saville Wood allows us to enter upper Horse Carr Wood, a short section of which overlaps some of the 8+ mile walk done on January 4th, but not for long.  The back streets to the north of Ardsley lead directly onto the TPT to return to the car park, passing Monk Bretton Priory along the way.

Meeting point is the free Monk Bretton Priory car park on Grange Lane, Cundy Cross.

Dogs welcome, but must be on a short, fixed lead.
