This is a 8½ mile circular walk which starts with a walk towards Newbury along byways and footpaths. The vistas along this path are expansive and typical of the West Berks countryside. At times the path is a little uneven but on the whole the paths are free from brambles and are not overgrown.
On the outskirts of Newbury we cross the B4009 and walk up beside the cemetery until the paths widen out again to get some lovely views of the opposite side of the valley. We are hoping that the field with cows and a bull will not be an issue for us but if our way is blocked at Henwick Farm we have a little detour in mind.
After a little walking on a very quiet road we reach another footpath which eventually takes us through a fallow field with some gorgeous sunflowers where avid photographers will have a field day. We re-enter Curridge via a by-way which provides some lovely views across Rookery and Grange farms. There is an option to cut the walk down in length to just under 7 miles if you are feeling the heat at this point but our walk will continue up Marsh Lane into the woods of Curridge and around the back of Oakland deer Park which is a new game processing and conservation reserve.
We will start the walk at 10am from the WI Hall car park in Curridge.
We will end the walk at The Bunk Inn for those who would like to have some liquid refreshments (there are crisps and light bites for those who want them), and if you prefer to get home then the car park is at the other end of Chapel Lane which is approx ½ kilometre and we can provide failsafe instructions on how to get back to your cars.
Please bring a small packed lunch or snacks and plenty to drink as usual.
