This walk follows the route of the Victorian Carriage drive, originally intended for the Bowhill estate owners and their guests to enjoy the views which are lovely on a clear day.
We head initially along the road past Bowhill House, then onto good tracks, climbing steadily through the forest, onto the exposed moorland above and back down through more open views where some of the forest has been cleared. We head back past the imposing ruins of Newark Castle, then down along the Lady's walk, following the Yarrow back to the start.
Although on good paths, it may be muddy in places so boots and poles are recommended.
Food and drink for 2 stops, and plenty of layers, as it can be cold round the top.
Car parking on the right as you come onto Bowhill Estate (before the entry barriers). There are ticket machines for parking - £3 payable by credit/debit card.
Circular walk, grade B, moderate. Hiking boots and poles are recommended.
