Overview

This is a circular walk through a mature woodland where Rhododendrons may be in flower. The walk skirts the wood to follows a path by the lake on The Hirsel Country Park Estate. Look out for the resident swans and a variety of waterfowl on the lake. There is also the possibility of seeing a herd of Highland Cattle in the park fields.

Passing by the homestead, (where there is a museum, craft centre and cafe) we follow a path through woodlands along the riverside then onto a quiet road before turning on to  further field and woodlands tracks by a golf course. The return to the car park skirts the golf course on winding paths then back through more dense woodland.

Walking Boots and Poles are advised as woodland paths can be very muddy.

If you haven't walked before with any Ramblers groups, we allow you to walk with us for a maximum of 3 walks, before you decide whether to join the Ramblers.

In Case of Emergency: Members carry I.C.E. cards which identify the name and number of a person to be contacted in an emergency. Non-members should bring a similar record on paper, placed in an accessible part of their clothing or rucksack. We have never had such an incident, but we need to cover all eventualities.
