EDITED - Details of Walk Extension have been added (in bold type)
This will be a leisurely walk starting from Earlston Square, with a bit huffy puffy up Huntshaw Road, and then a lovely walk through Carolsidehill Wood. We cross the A68 with care into the Carolside Estate. There is one easy stile to cross and 2 suspension footbridges across the Leader Water. There are also some quite steep steps to negotiate. Unfortunately the Carolside gardens are not open at this time of year but we should be able to see the front of the house.
After a lunch break there will be an optional extension to the walk along the High Street, and past the new primary school, to climb through fields and along farm tracks to the summit of Black Hill, returning to Earlston by Cowdenknowes and Speedy's Path. Not a challenging route and a fine viewpoint on a clear day. There is no need to register separately for the extended walk as members can decide on the day whether they want to join it.
