A forest circular walk through a mixture of open fields and forest paths. We set off next to the pond at East Dean and after a fairly flat start we gently climb until we reach the South Down Way at Graffham Down. Then we follow the SDW for a mile or so after which we gently descend a different path all the way back to our starting point
Good shale tracks for most of the forested area. There's a gentle 15 minute climb after about an hour. No stiles. I've walked this route a few times this year after rainy weather. There's not much mud, but being a forest there will be lots of potentially wet leaves underfoot. Nothing to worry about, just to be aware. I'll be using a walking pole, though this isn't essential.
Bring a drink and a snack/picnic. We'll have one break about half way through. There aren't any man made loos on the walk, but as we'll be in a forest there are thousands of natural alternatives.
When we finish the Star and Garter pub, next to the pond, gives a good welcome to walkers and serves hearty fare or something lighter.
