This is a classic walk along the river Derwent and four of our fine gritstone edges. Starting from the car park at the Robin Hood, we will traverse Birchen, Baslow, Curbar and Froggatt edges, before returning along the river, and through Chatsworth park. It’s a walk for any season, and there’s always something of interest to see. When we descend from the edges, we will get a close-up, and pretty awesome view of the main rock climbing section of Froggatt, which is often missed on edge walks.
Bring a packed lunch. There are public toilets in the later stages of this route at Baslow, and at the pub at the end.
Bearing in mind this is the autumn season, it is essential that walkers bring warm clothing, waterproofs; and that they wear strong waterproof footwear. Although escape routes are numerous on this walk, you should be prepared for poor weather conditions, regardless of the forecast on the day. Underfoot conditions can be challenging, with tree roots, boulders and muddy sections to negotiate.
