Join us on this 8.8mile circular walk from Firle.
On leaving the village we’ll head west for a short distance along the foot of the Downs before ascending steeply on a public byway up Beddingham Hill bisecting the South Downs Way then decending to Poverty Bottom followed by the ascent of Gardeners Hill + Heighton Hill to join the South Downs way. We’ll follow the SDW to Firle Beacon where we’ll descend onto the Old Coach Road for a short distance before returning to Firle.
As can be seen this is an undulating walk with a couple of steep ascents. Paths are good. No styles. Dogs welcome but potentially there may be livestock in a few places. Bring a picnic lunch. Opportunity for a drink at the ‘Ram’ PH at the end. We’ll be out on the Downs for the duration of this walk - if the weather is kind there’ll be some great views. If you’re interested in birds of prey, plenty of red kites, buzzards + kestrels in this area.
If you’re planning to be on the RR trip to Derbyshire this walk could be just the warmup you need … now there’s a challenge!!!
