A 4-mile walk from Cwmavon to Pontrhydyfen, passing Richard Burton’s birthplace.
We will see:
- Dan y Bont aqueduct, built in 1825 which supplied the local iron works.
- An impressive nine arch viaduct which carried coal to Port Talbot Docks from Pelenna collieries.
Finally, we’ll pass Bethel Chapel (currently closed) where Burton’s local memorial service was held.
There is a slight incline on the tarmac path which we will take at our own pace. Dog walkers, horse riders, joggers and cyclists frequent the path.
