Beginning at the car park, our walk sets out towards the Arboretum located by Speech House. We proceed along well-maintained forestry tracks, passing Speech House Lake as we continue. The route then guides us onwards to New Fancy View, which involves a brief ascent featuring a few steeper sections. Upon reaching the summit, we hope to enjoy panoramic views across the Forest of Dean.
Descending on the opposite side, we briefly retrace our steps before picking up additional forestry tracks leading towards Mallards Pike Lake. Here, we circle the lake and commence our return journey, following a combination of reliable forestry tracks and woodland footpaths towards the trig point at Crabtreehill Plantation. From this point, we join the Gloucestershire Way, which leads us back to the starting point.
The majority of the walk takes place on sturdy forestry tracks, providing a comfortable walking surface. As we transition onto woodland paths, the terrain becomes slightly more uneven and muddy. Notably, there are no stiles encountered throughout the route.
