This is a walk to The Garnock Spout, the recognised source of the River Garnock. The walk will be a linear walk of about 1300 feet of height gain over a route of 7 miles. We will follow a good path for most of our route. We will park at Holehouse Farm (our intention has been agreed with the farmer) and walk uphill on a rising gradient past Plan Farm and up to the former Pundeavon Reservoir, (now drained). Coffee stop. Carrying on over a recent rubble road serving a mini hydropower scheme and turbine, we then continue over undulating paths to reach our destination which lies just Northwest of Murchan Hill. Our return is on the same route.
The river meanders for twenty-three miles from its source to enter the sea after combining with the River Irvine.
We meet to share cars and offer lifts in the corner of Morrison's supermarket that's far from the supermarket doors and closest to the big roundabout on the A78, bypass. Car sharing is encouraged for this walk as car parking is limited at the farm where negotiated parking has been generously offered.
