This scenic route runs through the dramatic mountain peaks and glens of the Arrochar Alps from Loch Long to Loch Lomond. We will walk there and back by the same route. It is 11.5 miles, Grade B and offers an enjoyable walk on mainly rough stony paths and some tarmac at the Loch Lomond side. It begins fairly level at the Loch Long side then climbs steadily up between the dramatic mountain landscape before heading down again to Loch Lomond.
From the Succoth Car Park at the top of Loch Long at Arrochar, we cross the main road and walk on the pavement before turning left to follow a track beside the Loin Water. Keeping to the right of the burn we head up the glen with good views of Beinn Narnain and A'Chrois to the left. At the end of the Glen Loin path we cross a wooden bridge and tackle a series of small rocky slopes. Ben Vorlich now comes into view and the Inveruglas Water is crossed by a bridge. Ben Vane and Ben Vorlich now dominate and we follow the Inveruglas Water to the west shore of Loch Lomond. We pass the power station and head to the view point for lunch. There are toilets and a snack/ coffee shop with benches for us to sit on for lunch while we admire the Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond. We return by retracing our steps.
Distance from Stevenston to Arrochar, 108 miles round trip so £27 per car. There is also a car parking fee at Arrochar, Loch Long Car Park, £8 per car.
