Ramblers can travel by train or car (car parking on either side of the station). The walk will start at Glengarnock Railway Station postcode KA14 3AT, (Kilbirnie side), where we will walk a couple of hundred yards before crossing the bridge over the river Garnock, we will soon come to a disused railway embankment. We will climb the embankment (photo 1), walking along the disused railway (photo 2) , climbing over a gate, then through a kissing gate until the embankment ends. We will then go through a gate and under a bridge (very muddy here), climbing over a gate, going upwards at an area known locally as Dysel/Davieshill towards the metalled single track road, passing a waterfall on the way (photo 3). A short walk along the metalled road will bring us to Auchengree farm shop and cafe for our coffee break (inside and outside seating available). Leaving Auchengree we soon turn off to enter the glen to descend to Tianna Falls waterfall (photo 4). On exiting, we make our way to the Lochshore, where we will stop off at the Hub/cafe at Lochshore for lunch. NB this cafe is changing ownership from the Council to a private company, I would suggest you bring something to eat with you just in case the cafe part is closed on the day (inside and outside seating available). We will then do the easy walking 'loop' around Kilbirnie Loch (photo 5) then return to the station.
The attractions: two waterfalls, two cafe's, toilet facilities, accessible by public transport.
The hazards: two/three gates to climb over, muddy underfoot at one part. I would recommend boots/gaiters/poles if you have them.
If any Rambler wants to do the easy walking part only, ie around the Lochshore Loop which will be no more than 3 miles- we can arrange to meet you at the Lochshore HUB/cafe postcode KA25 7EF- a 15 minute walk from the train station.
