From Fairlie train station we head up Fairlie Glen, an area of lovely woodland and tumbling water. At Fairlie Castle we leave the glen to take a path through statuesque beech trees with views across the Clyde to the islands.
Before long we start to gently climb, breaking the climb with our coffee break. We continue onto open moorland, descending to a burn, which we cross, before climbing to join the windfarm track, all the while enjoying views of the Knockside Hills.
We follow the windfarm track down to the Largs Road, crossing this with care. From here we take a path that joins the track from Blairpark, which we follow to the Greeto Bridge, where we will take our lunch. Along the way the views once again open up across the Clyde to islands and hills beyond.
From Greeto Bridge we take the path through Gogo Glen and back to Largs.
Though the walk is largely on good paths and tracks there are some muddy sections and so gaiters and poles recommended.
Care should be taken when crossing the A760.
