Overview

Area long walk. Distances are generally 9-10 miles unless specified.

Using the protection of two pelican crossings, ignoring the attraction of Wetherspoons, Marks & Sparks, Mountain Warehouse and Aldi, find and follow Glossop Brook to Cliffe Road. Take the path, passing to the east of Whitfield, over to Lane Ends Farm, follow the slippery path down crossing the stream, to Gnat Hole and the bottom of Shaw Moor on Derbyshire Level.

The hard and only strenuous bit starts with the climb to Harry Hut trig point - the high point geographically, and maybe visually, of the ramble -  before easy and possibly some muddy paths to Burnt Hill, the A624, to be crossed with care at Chunal, and on to Monks Road. Again to be used with care as far as the turn onto Matley Moor.

Except for modest undulations the next one and a half miles to Rowarth, via Matley Moor and Harthill Farms, is downhill on tracks and paths before reasonably quiet tarmac as far as the Childrens Inn and a short ugly bit to Shiloh Road and Moorend.

Find Mellor Moor via Bogguard Road to Primrose Lane, field paths to Shaw Farm, New Mills Golf Course, High Lea Park to cross the B6101, the last busy crossing, at Station Road where there should be trains to the north, via Manchester, now that it's no longer cut off.

Caffeine and coffee available locally for those who need it.

Hazards - Roads, as mentioned, trips, many and varied,  stiles, mud and possibly livestock.
