Overview

Area Sunday Strenuous Walk.

Distance will be around 12 miles .

Linear walk. No booking required.

Distance will be around 12 miles and around 2200ft ascent/descent.  We begin by heading north, ascending via a road to meet the footpath to Oaks wood, through Sheffield plantation on the Longshaw estate and on to Burbage Bridge. Crossing Hathersage moor we climb Higger Tor. We return to Bole Hill via Over Owler Tor, Mother cap and Owler Tor. Following footpaths through Oxhay and Bolehill woods , we descend to cross to cross the railway bridge close to Padley Chapel and wend our way towards Hathersage.

09:20 at Manchester Piccadilly station.

Start time & place: 

10:36 at Grindleford station.

Estimated finish time & place: 

17:15 at Hathersage station. Trains from Hathersage back to Manchester leave at 32 minutes past the hour.

The walk will start at Grindleford station after the arrival of the 09.31 from Manchester Piccadilly due at 10.36.

Note: walkers are advised to check one of the rail websites such as nationalrail or trainline close to the departure time in case of late changes to the running of the train.

Train ticket - return to Grindleford (if you have a GM concessionary pass this can be from Strines to Grindleford).

Car parking is available around Hathersage station.

Walk route and risks : We will climb through woodland where there are steps. Our route includes moorland, a stream crossing, easy to negotiate stepping stones and road crossings.
