This is a small village on the southern edge of Cumbria, and we look to park the coach right outide the Greyhound Inn. With our walks today going up onto the moor or down to the estuat. Wherever you go the scenery is superb.
There will be three walks available with full details circulated on the coach. They will range from easy to strenuous depending on the walk selected.
A Walk Leader - Clare Vattev - 11 miles with 1900ft of ascent. A strenuous walk of steep but shortish ascents interspersed with easier walking and endless stunning views. Alighting shotly after Gawthwaite, starting with a climbup Great and Little Burney before making our way fromCrooked Birch to climb Blawith Knott, Tottlebank Height and Wool Knott. Decending to Beacon Tarn to join the southbound Cumbria Way, to the The Low, Tottiebank and Kiln Bank before heading west back to Crooked Birch. The final leg takes us around the base of Great Burnles to Knittleton and on to Grizebeck via Ashlack Hall.
B Walk Leader - Dave Eccles - A linear walk stating from Gawthwaite and ending in Grizebeck, eight to eight & halk miles with a high point around 700ft with a total ascent of 960 (ish) ft. No steep climbs, mainly on good tracks, but uneven in places.
C Walk Leader - John Slatcher - Around 7 miles with a few uphill bits as we make our way to Sand Side overlooking Duddon Sands. Calling at Beck Side, and walking the old tramway that run from the Kirkby Slate Quarries down to Kirkby-in-Furness.
