A brisk walk across The Sussex Downs with panoramic views of surrounding countryside and the south coast. We walk south towards the Clayton Windmills, known locally as Jack and Jill, where the path ascends steeply on to the South Downs and then descends to Pyecombe. After lunch there is a gentler climb up Wolstonbury Hill with a steep descent to continue on to Hassocks. Please use toilets on the train. Note: due to waterlogged paths, the final 2 miles will be road and pavement walking.
Lunch: picnic in the churchyard at Pyecombe. The church is a traditional stopping place for pilgrims and has toilet and tea/coffee making facilities. Alternative of drinks only at The Plough.
Train: London Bridge 9:35; East Croydon 9:49 (Brighton train). Buy return to Hassocks. Thameslink may be cheaper than Southern.
Please note: many factors can affect how long a walk takes and the finish time given is an estimate only.
