A high level linear walk along the Helvellyn range with grandstand views. Catch the 555 Stagecoach bus at Legburthwaite to Dunmail Raise.
Steep ascent via Raise Beck to Grisedale Tarn. Zigzag path to Dollywaggon Pike, on to Nethermost Pike, High Crag, continue to Helvellyn (at 3,118 third highest mountain in England). Continue over Lower Man, Whiteside and Raise to reach Sticks Pass.
Here we leave the hills behind and descend finally via Stanah Gill to our cars.
Steep ascents and descents on this long mountain walk. Poles recommended.
Sufficient food and water must be carried for a full day out on the mountains.
Although this is graded strenuous, we will walk at a moderate pace throughout with regular pauses to regroup and admire the views. Bus fare £3.
