Overview

A varied walk from an urban setting down into the Moss Valley and then back up via Ridgeway and Birley Lane.  Purple Tram out and Blue Tram back.

You'll need to catch the 10:13 Purple Tram from Castle Square to the Herdings Leighton Road tramstop. 
They only run once an hour. You can catch a Blue tram to Gleadless Townend stop and then walk 10 mins to Leighton Road stop.

Route is via Charnock, Stonely Wood, Carterhall Wood, Ryall's Wood, Birleyhay, Ford, Plumbley, Ridgeway, High Lane, Birley Wood and across Birley Lane Golf Course

There is a rough upland section in Carterhall Wood and a later downhill section which some may find difficult. There are a number of stiles.

 

Possible drop out point at the Bridge Inn at Ford (252 bus) after c 4miles
