The fourth of a Hertford East Circular Walk.
And this more than any of the others may be seen as a hike of two tales. The first section is a popular and pleasant riverside trail which we follow from Hertford East to Ware. We go past the beginning of the New River which is an artificial waterway; a source of London’s water supply. Ware Gazebos (summerhouses) from the 18th century coaching eras are prominent as we enter the town centre.
We continue along the river path from Ware to Hardmead Lock 3 where we start the second tale of this hike. We go inland from the river trail.
We go along unpaved country roads, across fields and canopied woods (Much Wood) to our lunch stop at Little Amwell. Please bring a packed lunch.
The trail after lunch takes us through Hertford Heath, Balls Wood and across fields to link with the ‘Hertfordshire Way’ for Hertford and Hertford East Station.
We will be walking at a brisk pace from start to Finish.
No booking required. No need to text or email. Just turn up to join the walk.
