We are the West Berkshire Ramblers. We open the way for everyone in our local community to enjoy the pleasures of walking.

On this historical walk, we will travel alongside gallops before passing through the ancient landscape at Fyfield Down and the Grey Wethers before heading to West Overton. The walk now crosses fields up to West Woods, which we will wander around, taking in the long barrow and a stop for lunch. On leaving the woods towards Clatford and its Manor house, we then follow Clatford Bottom to Devils Den. Climbing for the last leg back to the cars over the downs.
There is some shade through the woods but the rest is in the open, so please be prepared for the weather on the day.
The walk is mainly on decent paths but there are areas of rough ground, which have been baked dry by the recent hot weather, so care needs to be taken in these areas. There are three stiles and most of the ascents are gradual.
Bring food and drink for the day.

Gravel Hill car park is off Downs Lane (signposted Manton House off the A4 ). It is a turn off Downs Lane on the left just before Redpost farm (about 1.5k along ).
