If you are afraid of steep inclines please be aware that we walk along some high edges above woods.
Also, we cross one bridge.
This will be a moderate to strenuous walk as this area has steep, narrow valleys encased in woodland with gritstone rocks and will involve walking over a variety of surfaces.

We set off by going along the canal , climbing up steps away from the town to begin our ascent along mainly grassy paths up to Rake Head and then descending through Callis Wood to cross the canal and river. ( We will not be visiting Broadhead Clough nature reserve).

We then meander uphill on a road surface by a rushing river to go along  through Foster wood  towards Lumb bank. Finally we visit the lovely village of Heptonstall with the ruined Church and the grave of the poet Sylvia Plath before looping back down into Hebden Bridge.

This means we ascend and descend twice at least.

The ‘hopeful' is that it does not rain ! If it does rain, the leader may reverse the route or shorten the walk.

There are uneven surfaces so walking boots are advised for this walk. Hope for sun, but be prepared for rain by bringing waterproofs. No toilets en route.
