For anyone new to Orrest Head this is a charming "day out" linear 11 mile/1250ft ascent (no dogs) riverside walk up to Kentmere and then over to Orrest Head (Wainwright's first Lakeland view which he described as his "first sight of mountains in tumultuous array across glittering waters, our awakening to beauty").
Return via Β£3 bus hop or Β£4.40 five minute train hop back to Staveley after pub drinks or Booths cafe if wished.
Allow plenty of time to park where you can unless you want to pay Β£10 to park in the Mill Yard.
Meet by the Spar shop on Main Street in Staveley for a 10am prompt kickoff.
Public loos are over the road by the bus lay-by.
