Starting from Newbiggin-on-Lune we will make our way to the Smardale Nature Reserve along the old railway track up to the spectacular viaduct. Then continue along the track and onto a quiet road, down to a ford and up to the pretty village of Crosby Garrett where we will stop for lunch. From the village we follow a track over Crosby Garrett Fell where we can look back over views of the Eden Valley.
Turn off the M6 at Tebay, Junction 38 and follow the A685 to Newbiggin-on-Lune and turn left onto High Lane, then immediate left onto a quiet minor road where there is ample parking. Toilets are available at Tebay Truck Stop just as you turn of Junct 38, immediately left at the roundabout.
