Overview

West Mendip Walkers easy to moderate walk of 10 miles. Enjoy the historic landscape of willow growing with distant views of the Blackdowns, see one of Somerset’s finest perpendicular churches and another more modest but pretty one, walk part of the trackbed of the former Yeovil Town to Langport West railway line and enjoy stretches beside both the Westport Canal and the River Parrett.  We will pass through the hamlet of Thorney where in the winter floods of 2013-14, eighteen of fifty homes were flooded - some taking nearly two years to repair.  This is almost entirely level with one gentle incline. It is mainly footpaths and droves with some quiet tarmac lanes. Most but not all stiles are gated. There may be cattle or sheep in a couple of fields so leads for dogs are advisable. This walk is generally level.
