This is part of my "Lacey Green Loops" series of walks around our group's "adopted" parish of Lacey Green. As Footpaths Secretary for Chilterns Weekend Walkers I plan to walk every right of way in the parish during the year to check for any issues - this is our local contribution towards the national Ramblers aim of improving the whole path network. So as well as having an enjoyable walk, we may stop to carry out light clearance of any encroaching vegetation - feel free to bring secateurs (and maybe gardening gloves) and/or a stout stick for nettles.
This walk is 7.5 miles, with 600 ft (180m) of ascent, including a few steep sections so bring walking poles if you use them. There are short sections of walking along minor roads. Well behaved dogs are welcome. Leisurely to moderate pace, with brief stops to cut back vegetation - there are a number of sections on this route that may need attention. There are a mix of stiles and gates on this walk.We will join the Chiltern Way as it turns down through Loosely Row, turning before the Chiltern Line railway to wind our way back up through the other end of Loosely Row. On to Callow Hill and the edge of the National Trust's Bradenham Estate, probably having our packed lunch here (at the 3.5 mile point), before heading back to Lacey Green village. Arriving at the village hall (5 miles completed) we can stop at The Black Horse Pub (https://www.theblackhorselg.co.uk/) for refreshment and toilets if desired! There is an option to finish here if you wish, or complete the remaining 2.5 miles loop. The final section follows the ancient Grim's Ditch landscape feature, before meeting the Chiltern Way again, through the equestrian fields of Widmer Feeds / Farm Park and returning to the Whip Inn.
