The third in the Beat the Heat series of morning August walks with a cafe stop.
From Halton Camp free carpark behind the post office stores.
Gradual ascent through shady woodland to the new model owl on Boddington Hill, along woodland edge with long rolling views over recently harvested farm fields and past some substantial rural properties at The Hale. Up a quiet less used woodland path where marsh or willow tits were seen on the recce and joining the Ridgeway path through Barn Wood and past Boswells estate. Through the churchyard in Wendover, past the stream in Witchell Meadow and along to Wendover town for refreshment at one of the several choices of cafe. Cash is preferred at one at least.
Return along the Wendover Arm tow path from its start in Wharf Road, a particularly lovely part of the canal with clear water and water birds, crossing at Olivers Bridge, past the rifle range (noisy when in use...beware dog owners) and crossing Halton Camp playing fields before returning on pavements, and past the RAF Halton entrance with its 1956 Hawker Hunter F.6 jet displayed outside.
Moderate 212M ascent. A few hills in the early stages. Very flat after Barn Wood. A couple of stiles.
Well behaved dogs allowed. Some may be disturbed by the rifle range if operating.
