A popular Essex circular walk led by Nigel S (Mobile No: 07793 629809) joint with Kensington, Chelsea & Westminster Group. The walk starts along a dyke by the Thames and passes Two Tree Island, a nature reserve, and Hadleigh Marsh, to reach Benfleet. The route climbs through Hadleigh Country Park, the 2012 Olympic mountain bike site, a medieval castle (a good picnic spot) and goes down to Leigh-on-Sea; pubs, cafés and a small sandy beach for swimmers. NOTE: This walk was postponed from Wednesday 10th September when there was an RMT strike and no service at all on most London Underground lines.
Leigh-on-Sea Station at 10:34 (train from Fenchurch Street at 09:45 (Shoeburyness service), calling at Stratford at 09:52, Barking at 10:03 and Upminster at 10:13). There are six return trains an hour.
