Overview

A popular Essex circular walk. 

Route: starting flat along a dyke by the Thames and passing Two Tree Island, a nature reserve, and Hadleigh Marsh, to reach Benfleet. Then climbing up through Hadleigh Country Park, the 2012 Olympic mountain bike site, a medieval castle (a good picnic spot) and then down to Leigh-on-Sea; pubs, cafés - and a small sandy beach for swimmers (maybe not in November!).

Lunch: bring picnic.

Meet at Leigh-on‐Sea Station at 10.35.

Travel: Liverpool Street 09.45/Stratford 09.52/Barking 10.03/Upminster 10.12 - Shoeburyness service - arr Leigh at 10.34.

Ticket/Fare: Buy Off-Peak Day Return to Leigh-on-Sea. Freedom Pass buy from Upminster.

Finish: Leigh-on-Sea - six return trains per hour.
