Overview

Our Walk will take us through Wimbledon Park and then up to Wimbledon Common for a coffee break/early lunch stop at the Windmill.  We will then wend our way through the common to Robin Hood Gate, entrance to Richmond Park.  Our route then takes us up to Penn Ponds, through Sidmouth Wood to exit the park at Richmond Gate and shortly we will have sight of the famous J M W Turner's view of the Thames from The Terrace at Richmond, weather permitting.  We will then drop down to the towpath via Terrace Fields and finish our walk at Richmond Bridge.  Please note that there is just the one rest stop described above.  There are various factors that can affect the actual finish time which may be  up to an hour earlier but is unlikely to be much beyond 2.30 pm.

The walk is undulating and, at times, the path is a bit steep but not long.  The walk is mainly comprised of parkland with some woods and open areas on good paths, but there is some street walking.  There may be mud.  Toilets available at the start and at the one break at The Windmill and at various locations in Richmond Park.  There are red and fallow deer in Richmond Park and it is likely that the rut (the annual mating season) will still be on at the time of the walk so, on this occasion, strictly no dogs please.
