Overview

Much of this walk is through deciduous woodland, so hopefully we should enjoy some good autumn colour. If we are lucky we may also see red kites and deer that were present during the recce.

We'll follow a section of the Red Kite Trail up through Chopwell Wood towards High Spen, and then follow Spen Burn towards Derwent Park. From there, it's a leisurely stroll back along the Derwent Walk railway path to the historic village of Lintzford on the River Derwent.

Tea and cakes will be available in the garden centre after the walk.

Meet in the layby outside the Lintzford garden centre. This is located on the right of the A694 if travelling east past Hamsterley Mill, and is just before the A694 crosses the River Derwent. If you live near the route for the GoNorthEast X45 bus, this stops at the garden centre. Please note: if you were planning to drive to Lintzford from Hexham via Ebchester, the B6309 from Whittonstall to Ebchester is currently closed due bridge repair work.
