A brisk and undulating walk enjoying some fine and varied Chilterns scenery using parts of The Ridgeway, Inknield Way and Hertfordshire Way to take us on a circular route from Tring Station.
NOTE ABOUT THE WEATHER - an unsettled weather forecast means that the route may be changed in the event of heavy rain or thunder and lightning on the day.
The majority of the route will be on paths through woods, across pasture and over hills and dales, including the splendid Ivinghoe Hills and Ashridge Park. Bring a picnic as depending on the pace of the group and weather we may be taking lunch out in the open or under the cover of woods, but there is also chance to pick up a drink at the pub at Little Gaddesden (not suitable for lunch as time will be limited).
We will return via the delightful village of Aldbury for refreshments. Walkers can easily make their way from there the short distance gently downhill to Tring Station for the journey home.
Some paths are steep and may be slippery after rain so this walk would be best suited to sturdy footwear and requires some level of fitness. There may be some stiles.
No booking required.
Not suitable for bringing a dog as there may be sheep grazing.
Travel
Take the 10.24 train from Euston to Tring arriving 11.01. Outward trains are only hourly so if you miss this, you will miss the walk! Trains return at 15 and 45 minutes past the hour.
Use the toilet on the train as there are no facilities at Tring station.
The finishing time is an estimate only and will be dependent on a number of factors, such as the speed of the group, how often we stop, spend enjoying the views and, of course, the weather.
