This is a section of the West Anglian Way, the whole route of which runs from Cambridge to Tower Bridge. This walk is primarily along wide paths across flat, open fields and through woods until we reach the outskirts of Bishop's Stortford where we pick up the River Stort and follow it into the town.
We will have lunch at St John's Church in Stansted Mountfitchet. This will be just over seven miles into the walk so, if you are likely to need them, please bring snacks to eat beforehand. There is the option to exit at this point as we are only a few hundred yards from Stansted Mountfitchet station.
It is not difficult walking but the ground may be wet and is a bit overgrown in places so wear waterproof boots or shoes and be prepared for some muddy stretches.
Travel: Take the 9.24am train from London Liverpool Street (Tottenham Hale at 9.36am) arriving at Newport (Essex) at 10.22am.
