Based on a fun idea on the train home from a walk in 2025, join us for a jolly ramble from Arundel to Bognor Regis, following the River Arun to the sea at Littlehampton and then the King Charles III Coastal Path along the coast. The walk will be brisk (2.5-3 miles/hour), covers a dizzying 43 feet of ascent - and may be muddy along the river.
From Arundel station, we wander through town admiring the castle from below and find our way to the river, which meanders on its way to the sea through fields of unsuspecting cattle. We then pick up the coastal path across attractive pebble beaches and passing the communities of Elmer Sands, Middleton-on-Sea and Felpham, towards the tourist hotspot at Bognor Regis, where ice creams, fish and chips and all manor of seaside fun can be gotten hold of.
We will stop for lunch at the point we reach the sea at West Beach - please bring a packed lunch. The cafe should be open for drinks only; there are in theory public toilets here but they were closed when I recced the walk.
At the end of the walk, for those that wish to stay on for a drink, there is an option to stop off at The Station pub close to Bognor Regis station.
Exit points: Littlehampton station after the river section of the walk.
Travel: Take the 09:05 train from London Victoria, calling additionally at Clapham Junction at 09:12 and East Croydon at 09:23, and arriving at Arundel at 10:32.
On the return journey, trains depart from Chichester at xx56 and xx26 - we should catch the 16:26 or 16:56.
You are recommended to buy a return ticket to Bognor Regis.
No booking required.
The finishing time is an estimate only and will be dependent on a number of factors such as, weather, the speed at which the group walks and the number of breaks taken.
