A moderate circuit following lanes and a good path over Low Rigg (optional visit to the summit at 277m) dropping down to St John's Church. We then follow a stony bridleway which descends towards Dale Bottom before climbing back up towards the A591 at Nest Brow. We turn north here through farmland to Castlerigg Stone Circle. Descend via tarmac lane to pick up the Keswick-Threlkeld railway line to return to start. Wet and muddy in places!
Free roadside parking near Threlkeld Bridge just off A66 (coming from Penrith, this is the next turning on the left after the B5322 Thirlmere turning and is signed to Youth Centre and Castlerigg). Park considerately on verges after end of double yellow lines. Meet at the stone bridge by the sign for the Keswick Railway Path.
Cafe and toilets in Threlkeld village (off route).
