Overview

Lyme Park to Whaley Bridge, return via Furness Vale.

Route: Lantern Wood - Dissop Head - Whaley Moor - Whaley Lane - Stoneheads - Hockerley - Whaley Bridge Tesco (where there are toilets) - Peak Forest Canal - Furness Vale - Kiln Knoll - Longside Cottage - Mudhurst Lane - East Lodge - return. Lovely views, weather permitting.

About 9.2 miles, 1400 ft ascent (OS), moderate, with several short steep sections. Some awkward stiles (outside CEC). Muddy in a few places. Poles recommended if you normally use them. Two short stretches of road walking.

Please bring drinks and packed lunch (there is also an opportunity to buy food and drinks at Tesco Whaley Bridge).

No dogs please as livestock in many fields.

Lyme Park National Trust Car Park, Car Park: NT members free if you show your NT card at barrier. Non-members £8 for the day. Driver and each passenger need to show membership cards or pay charge. No charge for pedestrians, including passengers who get out of car before barrier and walk past barrier. Meet next to Car Park at Kiosk with information point. Toilets in the Timber Yard.
