Marian’s City Walk approximately 5 miles
Easy walking paths and pavements. Flat apart from pavement walk up from Stockbridge to Princes Street but buses are readily available.
Walk starts from behind the Gallery 2 through the Dean Cemetery in which there are many interesting headstones and into the Dean Village via a short part of Water of Leith walkway. Features here are Bell’s Court and the newly restored stone feature commemorating the many mills that relied on the water power available from the river. Passing under the Dean Bridge we walk along the path following the river to Stockbridge. Anthony Gormley statue in the river just as we get to Stockbridge. Following the river, into and around Inverleith Park/ pond we then go via the Colonies, Glenogle Baths and Circus Lane. A steep walk up through the New Town to West Princes Street Gardens where walk ends by the enormous war memorial at the east end of the gardens which is an ideal and fascinating place for a packed lunch if you bring one.
Toilets are available at the Botanic Gardens very near to Inverleith Park and in Princes Street gardens.
Walk starts at Gallery of Modern Art 2, Belford Road EH4 3 DS
10:00 for 10:15 start. Bus or tram recommended as limited parking
