In the Peak District just, 5 miles west of Bakewell, and offering a range of walking options. Before enjoying refreshments for the Bulls Head pub, or the Old Smith Tearooms next door, you may well have walked through Lathkill Dale or to Youlgrave. With the Limestone Link and the High Peak Trail close by, we will have to see what our leaders offer.
Starting from the bus stop by the Plough Roundabout in Crossens, Southport, and calling at all pick-up points going South.
There will be three walks available, with details circulated on the coach. They will range from easy to strenuous depending on the walk selected.
A Walk Leader - Dave Scowcroft - Around 12 miles with 1550ft of ascent. This is a linear walk starting from Wye Dale car park. We walk along the river to Chee Dale (could be muddy in places), there are stretches of stepping stones and small limestone staircases that can be challenging. We continue into Millers Dale, and on towards Taddington. Then to High Dale before descending into Monsal Dale. Going up Deep Dale, and turning east to the Magpie Mine at Sheldon, and across field paths into Monyash.
B Walk Leader - Chris Grayson - 9.3 miles wth a total ascent of 670ft. walk down Lathkill Dale as far as the lane to Over Haddon. Walking through the village and then heading west on a mix of roads and footpaths back to Monyash on the higher ground north of Lathkill Dale. This walk may be walked in the opposite direction to make the climb easer.
C Walk Leader - Janet Loines - An 'out & back' walk from Monyash of approximatly 7.5 miles along Lathkill Dale, with some waterfalls, a gorge and some hidden mines. Whilst many of the Peak Districts best known walks involve a fair amount of hills there are a few gems which are entirely flat. This Lathkill Dale walk is one of them.
