A circular walk starting at the Red Lion Pub in the historic village of Myddle. In the footsteps of the writer and historian, Richard Gough, this walk consists of a mixture of farmland, woodland and quite country lanes taking in the hamlet of Newton on the Hill. On route to Webscott Quarry, you will enjoy scenic views of the Nescliffe and Breidden Hills in the distance. After a short coffee break, the walk will descend from the Quarry woodland area to Webscott Farm and thereafter continue along farmland tracks and bridleways to Hollins Farm. Return to Myddle via St Peter's Church and the remnants of Myddle Castle.
This is not a S&S walk however meals can be purchased on the day at the Red Lion. Orders for food must be placed by 2pm on the day. For those not joining in a meal, purchase of a coffee or similar would be appreciated by the Landlord to cover parking.
Hazards: Take care crossing the A258 at two places, several stiles and muddy in places consistent with the time of year. Boots/strong footwear advised. On route, there are 3 electric fences which will require careful negotiation by Ramblers and dogs.
Dods are welcome on the walk but must be kept on a lead. On areas with arable crops, dogs must be kept to the footpath. Dogs are kindly allowed in the bar area of the Red Lion Pub.
