A walk combining history, stunning views, water supply solutions, a variety of streets, a couple of hills, hustle and bustle and mud. We call at Alexandra Palace on our way to join the 400 year old New River path at Wood Green and make our way to its original destination of New River Head, next to Sadlers Wells in Islington. Although we are frequently beside the watercourse, there is also quite a lot of street walking but there are many areas of interest and several parks and wildlife areas to keep the enthusiasm high. If it has been wet, expect mud and puddles and slippery areas. There are many little gems along the way!
We will meet in the foyer of Wood Green tube station and set off at 10:30. We walk past Alexandra Palace main line station at around 10:45 so if anyone prefers to meet there, please let me know in advance so we will find you. We have an early morning break at a cafe by the lake in Alexandra Palace grounds where we can shelter if wet. Lunch is at the restaurant by the East Reservoir in the Woodberry Wetlands. Shelter is also available if it is a wet day. There are several toilet stopping points along the route. As with any London walk there are some stopping off points along the way if time is tight. After visiting New River Head we make our way through remarkably quiet and attractive streets before emerging onto Pentonville Road and Kings Cross Station for our return home. Bring a picnic lunch but lunch and drinks can be purchased at our two main stops. Dogs are welcome but would need to be on leads a large amount of the time. Please would non-Hillingdon Ramblers members contact me first so I can keep some control of numbers.
