WALK DETAILS: A local walk which is approximately 5 miles.
From Currie, walk down onto the W of L coming off at Juniper Green. Cross over to Muirwood Road, and then go down Donkey Lane, at the bottom turn right along behind the Baberton Estate until you reach the road junction, turn left here and then sharp left again into Westburn Middlefield, going down through the housing development. We cross over black metal bridge onto the canal here and turn left. We walk along the canal towpath, to the Canoe Centre (there is some board walk, so hopefully we may be able to make our stop here) we continue on the canal until we reach Bridge 12, we leave the canal and cross over walking up to the Cottages and on to the A71. We cross over and enter the HWU. We walk up the long walk, and take a path going right and walk past the Robotarium and continue to the roundabout. Turn left here and walk up and over the grassy banking and through the wall into the wooded area behind the graduation garden. We turn left and go under the HW entrance and then head round past the lake, cross the bridge, and turn left to reach the Hotel and finish.
LUNCH:Marriot Courtyard Hotel. This year we can have either soup etc. or a sandwich lunch from their menu and coffee or tea as wished. Everyone will place and pay for their own order. The Marriot have a 20% reduction for locals. The soup is £7 and the sandwich (which includes salad leaves and chips @ £8.95 or with a cup of soup instead of chips @ £9.50) all before discount.
Everyone will place their own order, (20% discount) – card payment will be accepted.
Please contact our walk leader with your name if you wish to join us for the walk and lunch this New Year.
The walk finishes at HWU and we will hopefully organise for drivers to come down, otherwise there is a 45 bus up to the starting point. (or an extended walk for those who wish)
If you could advise at least have an idea of numbers by the 16th of December latest so that I can give the hotel an idea of the numbers involved who will be having lunch.
Our walk leader hopes not to limit the numbers for the New Year Walk, but definitely no more than about 25.
As usual the walk may be dependant on weather, gaiters and sticks as required on the day.
We regret that dogs are not permitted on our walks.
Please contact our walk leader to register and advise of any condition that may impact your ability to complete the walk.
