NEW YEAR WALK 2026

DATE:  Saturday 3rd January 2026

LEADER:   Sandra Renton (07504 306062)

Email: lsrenton@gmail.com

Parking:Car Parking is available at Pentland View Carpark

NOTE:  We will,  however, gather outside Dominos for safety

START: Currie

Time:  09.45 for 10.00 start

Walk Finish: Courtyard Hotel, The Avenue, Heriot Watt University

Lunch: At the Hotel

COST:  £11.00 per head which includes Soup and sandwich selection and also tea or coffee and gratuity.

NOTE: I hope to arrange a car shuffle, just before, in order that we have at least 4 cars to enable drivers to see we all get back up to Currie after our lunch.

WALK DETAILS: This is a local walk from Currie which is approximately 4 – 5 miles long.

The first recce has turned out to be too long, so a second shorter recce has not yet been done to confirm length and timing.  At the moment there is no 45 bus transport back up to Currie so a recce at the moment required 2 cars bringing one back before starting the recce as we would have no 45 bus to enable us to return to Currie.

We will start on the Water of Leith, and go up to Blinkbonny, and then take the pathway which leads along to the Pond and then on to the Riding Stables.    The aim then is to cross over the Water of Leith, and up past St. Margaret’s Church, cross over and walk up to Bloomiehall Park.  We walk through the park and along the field edge to reach Muirwood Road, and from there go down Donkey Lane and then cross the road and end up at the Courtyard Hotel.

Note:  If the recce turns out to be too short, we will do a further recce taking in Campbell Park and crossing over the little bridge to the Water of Leith and return from there.    The length of the walk will determine whether we have a short stop or not.   More details will be forthcoming just before the walk when final details will be sent out.

Please let me have your name if you wish to join us for the walk and lunch this New Year.

When notifying me, please also arrange to make payment, when your name will be added to the list.

If I could at least have an idea of numbers by the 10h of December latest so that I can give the hotel an idea of the numbers involved as I have to make payment up front at least a week/10 days beforehand.

I hope not to limit the numbers for the New Year Walk, but definitely no more than about 30.

As usual the walk may be dependant on weather, gaiters and sticks as required on the day.

PD: None

Please WhatsApp or text the leader if you would like to book a place on this walk with your name and mobile telephone number, and advise if you have a medical condition relevant to your walking. Please also provide an emergency contact number.

We regret that no dogs are allowed on our walks.
