East Cheshire Ramblers Traditional New Years Day Walk.
The perfect way to start the New Year: "Keith's Sherry Walk" led by Melanie & Lorraine at a leisurely pace.
Easy/mod 5.7 miles, 772ft ascent (ECR website stats). There are no stiles and it shouldn't be too muddy.
Route: Cross the canal, take track and road via Platt Wood Farm to Elmerhurst Cottage. Climb up to Cage (main climb but can be taken slowly) where we will distribute sherry and mince pies for the NY Day toast. We still have some plastic cups left but if you can bring your own (small!) cup we can help save the planet. We drop down towards Timberyard cafe (short stop for toilets), walk round lake and take road/track to Windgather and Haresteads farm. We return via a combination of canal towpath and the woodland walk above the Middlewood Way.
