Overview

Our walk takes us along tracks, farmland and quiet lanes through the villages of Loynton, Weston Jones, Norbury & Oulton, to visit all five millenium boulders (“glacial erratics” similar to, but larger than, the one on the Chase), finishing with a pretty stretch of the Shropshire Union Canal and a meander through Loynton Moss.

We will have a few stops along the route, including a lunch break at Norbury Church (worth a visit), and an ice cream stop at Norbury Junction. Please bring your own refreshments.

Don’t be put off by the distance; the route is pretty flat. There are twelve stiles, a couple of which were a bit tricky, but my trusty accomplices managed them without too much difficulty. There may be cattle or horses in some of the fields.

Join us at The Cock Inn at Woodseaves, just a few minutes away, for a drink after the walk.

Please let the leaders know if you wish to join this walk.

Staffordshire Wildlife Trust car park, Loynton Moss. ST20 0NX. Please consider car-sharing. Don't rely totally on your Sat-Nav which will probably try to take you off the main route! The car park is on the A519 between Eccleshall & Newport and can be easily missed. Coming from the direction of Eccleshall, the entrance to the car park is on your right shortly after a couple of bends taking you over the Shropshire Union Canal.
