Starting at the North Greenwich Station, we walk past the iconic O2 Arena, then follow the Thames Path, admiring a number of public art installations along the way. We arrive at the impressive Thames Barrier, a marvel of engineering. From there we join the Green Chain and climb up to Gilbert's Pit viewpoint, a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) renowned for its unique geology. We then go through Maryon Park, home to a small zoo, and enjoy lunch at the historic Charlton House, surrounded by its expansive parkland. Continuing our walk, we pass through Hornfair Park, before crossing Woolwich Common, a large expanse of green space. The walk concludes at the historic Woolwich Barracks, then finishing with the option of several Woolwich stations. Finish 1600
Joint walk with Richmond Ramblers
This walk is planned to go ahead after looking at the weather forecast (as of 6th), but it may be icy first thing.
There are toilets at North Greenwich station and we will wait for anyone that needs to use them.
The Bugle Horn Pub will let you eat your own picnic if you buy a drink. They do not serve food.
I am planning a three-quarters an hours lunch.
The paths were good condition and I had finished my recce by 1500. There are plenty of drop-out points.
