Overview

We begin by walking one mile on the sandy beach to stretch our legs! After carefully crossing the busy A753, we follow the track on a gentle climb up past Montfode Castle (remains) Montfode farm and on up to Townhead of Montfode (derelict).  Still on a track, a short descent to Millglen and the minor road to West Kilbride. Tarmac now but only briefly before going through a gate into open farmland. The route now goes up to the Busbie Muir wind farm and the rolling Rowanside Hills.  Still climbing gently to The Punch Bowl ( a circle of trees ) we continue above the Busbie Muir Reservoir. A wee bit of boggy moor and soon we pick up the track to the North Hill Wireless Station, 242 metres. Steeply down the grass flank of North Hill the route now takes us to the Coffin Road and Blackshaw Estate. Worth spending some time here exploring the well maintained paths round the loch and forest paths before ascending Blackshaw Hill. After returning to the Coffin Road, Law Hill is our next objective before heading back to the North Shore.
