Starting from the car park at Nuffield Place National Trust (free) you have the option to join for just the first half of the walk, or both. The two sections are each about 5.5 miles.
Part One: The first loop (suitable as an introductory walk) takes us out North past Huntercombe Prison, skirting past woods and fields. On through the Ewelme estate and the The Sujan Indian Tigers Polo stables and onto the Ewelme Downs. From here we turn back along the Chiltern Way back to Nuffield Park, where, depending on the weather, we will either stop just before this under shelter for lunch or head on a short way to make use of picnic tables at Nuffield Place.
Please bring NT cards if you have them. NT members not joining the second part of the walk can take the opportunity to tour the modest but beautiful and comfortable house of Lord Nuffield.
There are no stiles in this section and one long gentle descent on the grassy downs and a couple of short ascents. It may be muddy in places and slightly uneven underfoot in places, so poles are recommended if you use them. Easy/moderate.
Part Two: Following a short lunch stop, we will then head South of Nuffield Place through Huntercombe Golf Course and a mix of woods and fields. We pass through a private estate where you will see some beautiful long horn cows (thankfully the other side of the fence). We will loop back via the village of Nuffield where you will have the opportunity to see the graves of Lord Nuffield and Sir David Frost and his son. As we get near to Nuffield Place, and time permitting, we will stop at The Makers Space cafe for refreshments before crossing the road back towards Nuffield Place car park.
This section has a number of stiles and some short but slightly steeper ups and downs and is muddy in places. Moderate.
