Starting from Edale, we walk up the rocky Grindsbrook path onto the Kinder plateau and cross the pathless plateau, following the Kinder River to the impressive Kinder Downfall. Enjoying the views, we follow the edge round to a bronze-age barrow, and then return to Edale via Chapel Gate (or the slightly shorter alternative via Jacob's Ladder).
This walk is graded strenuous; the ascent of Grindsbrook is steep and rocky, and hands may occasionally be needed for balance. The walk across the plateau is pathless, and care should be taken in crossing the soft ground of peat groughs. The descent is more gentle and gradual. Trekking poles are recommended.
You may also come across, stiles, gates and other path furniture, hedges, road crossings, muddy/slippery sections, farm livestock & warning signs. You should remain stay alert and take individual responsibility.
Edale is accessible by train. Due to weekend engineering works, there is a reduced service to Sheffield on East Midlands Railway; check the online timetables.
Please let the leader know if you are coming by car or train.
