A steady-paced walk along the Grand Union Canal. Walking along the often-busy canal towpath, we will have the opportunity to 'gongoozle' at the narrowboats in all their colours and shapes, against the background of industrial estates, railway lines and modern-day residential buildings. There will also be the chance to view the brutalist style of Goldfinger's Trellick Building. If you are quick-eyed, you might see a model of a Nissan car and a model of Spiderman hanging upside down!
There are exit points to Portobello Market, Ladbroke Grove and Kensal Green Cemetary (one of the London Seven).
The towpath section will be partially shaded but there are some open stretches. A tiny section will involve walking on an inflatable pontoon so please wear sensible shoes with grip. The towpath does narrow so single-file walking might be needed.
There will be a lunch-stop where there is a large Sainsbury's with a Cafe Costa, otherwise, bring your own lunch.
Toilets available at Paddington Station located on the lower level, near to the main national rail concourse (you will walk past them if you are coming from Bakerloo/Elizabeth Lines direction, at the bottom of the escalators which takes you up to the Hammersmith & City line). Also at Sainsbury's.
Start at Paddington Railway Station on Bakerloo Line, Elizabeth Line, Circle and District, Hammersmith and City Line.
Finish at Alperton Railway Station on Piccadilly Line
No booking required.
The finishing time is an estimate only and will be dependent on a number of factors such as, weather, the speed at which the group walks and the number of breaks taken.
